The Frogs

Musical Reading
By Compagnie Karhu
The author
Cyriel Buysse was a 19th-century Flemish naturalist writer. Deeply interested in the human condition, he was himself a baron.
Synopsis
A barber, farmer, and father witnesses a cruel scene between children and frogs. Following this decisive accident, he loses himself in reflections that intertwine paternal love and social determinism.
Genesis
A meeting in a mythical bar in the Hautes-Pyrénées: Le Celtic. Cécile was playing in a wildly experimental music ensemble that captivated me. I had to meet her — their musical language opened both physical and mental spaces.
And so we embarked on an adventure to discover what bound us together: the desire to empower nature. No — our animal nature as wild women. Following our wolf instinct, life placed this book in our path.
We were struck by the beauty of the writing and the strangeness of the story. We loved it instantly and set to work. Our mission: to bring this strange crossing to life.
As one weaves a meeting, we wove the link between music and meaning, between sound and narration. Little by little, the text revealed its mystery: its desire to take up space, to inhabit the body. We sought to honor that impulse.
Gradually, with the support of Maya Paquereau (Cie La Tongue), the reading took shape.
